How New Zealanders browse the internet

New Zealanders’ use of smartphones over the past decade has skyrocketed but desktop still rules the roost, InternetNZ deputy boss Andrew Cushen says.

When UMR Research asked 750 New Zealanders what devices they used to access the internet, about 90 per cent of them said a computer or laptop.

Cushen said respondents may have resorted to saying desktop because people often thought using smartphone apps was not accessing the internet.

“[On a smartphone] people just think, ‘Oh, I’m using Facebook, not the internet’.”
