Dame Tariana Turia, Georgina Beyer, Helen Clark and Chloe Swarbrick are among the role models named by New Zealand women in politics across the spectrum.
A selection of politicians were asked which female politician from another party they admired the most during a discussion on Media Take on Tuesday.
Georgina Beyer was a role model not only for being the first trans mayor and the first trans MP in the world, “but because the style and grace in which she held her leadership, she still represented her electorate and the people there while she also able to stand and represent our communities and hold all of those different roles that somebody has to do in Parliament – I think just how gracefully she was able to do that,” says Elizabeth Kerekere, Green Party Candidate for Ikaroa RÄwhiti.
