The accommodation industry is making twice as much money as it was 20 years ago, statistics show.
Since 1997, sales for accommodation goods and services have boomed from around $1.5 billion to more than $3.5b.
Figures from Statistics New Zealand show the past three years have seen the fastest growth.
Sales leapt from less than $3b in 2014 to almost $4b this year.

This May an extra 171,000 guests and tourists stayed a night in an accommodation offering.
