NZ not keen on in-flight laptop ban, airline industry fights surprise move by US and UK

An airline industry group wants to ensure the laptop ban on some flights to the United States and United Kingdom does not extend to New Zealand.

In the meantime, Air New Zealand chief executive Christopher Luxon does not think the current ban will have too much impact here.

In March, the UK and US banned large electronic devices in the cabin on flights from some Middle Eastern and African airports.

International Air Transport Association (IATA) director general and chief executive Alexandre de Juniac said at the organisation’s annual meeting in Cancun, Mexico, this week the action caught everybody by surprise.
