Household electricity prices rose last year, but only just, after dipping to a 15-year low in 2016.
Power bills in the December quarter rose by 2 per cent from the same period the previous year.
More discounting and incentive schemes offered by electricity companies drove prices down in 2016, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment manager of energy and building James Hogan said.
In March last year, prices hit 28.8 cents a kWh, down slightly from 29c a kWh in 2015.

During the past 10 years, electricity prices had their biggest rise in the second quarter of 2011, up 7.8 per cent on a year earlier.
