How much tax is the Government collecting?

The Government’s tax revenue has slowly been rising to match pre-global financial crisis levels.

In 2006, tax revenue made up 31 per cent of the national gross domestic product (GDP), the highest point in the past two decades. Last year, tax revenue made up 27 per cent of GDP, amounting to $75.6 billion.

For the past three years, the Government collected more than $60b a year, mostly from workers’ Pay As You Earn tax, and goods and services (GST) tax on products bought.
