New Zealand’s income per capita fell behind behind many other developed countries in the 1980s and has not recovered.
New Zealand’s income per person was slightly below Australia, the United States, and Denmark, but higher than Singapore and Finland before the 1980s.
Fast forward 37 years, and Singapore’s income per capita has risen to US$84,429, more than double that of New Zealand’s US$38,186 per capita.
The United States was also higher at US$57,974, and Australia was at US$49,942.
