OPINION: McDonald’s is making moves to lighten the calorific load of its beloved Happy Meals, saying that by the end of 2022, half of Happy Meals listed on menus won’t contain more than 600 calories, with limits on the ratios of saturated fat, sodium and sugar.

Whoever was it that said the apple is king? Why is something the apple of your eye? Not that I have anything against apples – indeed, I love the things – but if I had to truly set one fruit apart from the rest, it would be the peach. Glorious things, peaches. Seductive almost. Pity “the peach of your eye” doesn’t quite trip off the tongue as mellifluously.
